Importing From India to Slovakia

In 2025 Slovakia flagged two Indian products on the EU's safety alert system - a pair of earrings releasing too much nickel (Safety Gate alert 10094515 (opens in a new tab)) and a baby powder with microbial contamination (alert 10092688 (opens in a new tab)). Two alerts isn't a trend. But both are the kind of fault that a spec and a test would have caught at the factory.
Slovakia is a small market for Indian goods, with India's cotton T-shirt exports there at US$1.99 million in FY2025-26 (TradeStat EIDB (opens in a new tab), HS 61091000). So this page is short. It covers the Slovak VAT, the label and the route in without a coast.

Duty is the same across the EU: see the EU bloc page.
1. VAT and the Label
Import VAT (DPH) is charged at the Slovak standard rate of 23%, in force since 1 January 2025 when Slovakia raised it (Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic, VAT rates (opens in a new tab)). Use the current figure, not an old invoice.
The textile label must be in Slovak. A Czech label isn't a Slovak label, however close the languages are.
If you buy fashion jewellery, put the EU nickel-release limit in your spec and ask for a test on the finished piece. Earring posts and clasps are where it fails.
2. No Coast, Two Routes
Customs is the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic (opens in a new tab). Slovakia is landlocked. Koper in Slovenia is the nearest sea port, with Hamburg and Rotterdam as the northern options, and all three carry on by rail or road under EU transit.
It's the Austrian choice. Koper is short on a Suez routing and long on the Cape, while Hamburg or Rotterdam means a longer rail leg but more sailings. We have India transits only for Rotterdam (on the EU bloc page), none for Koper or Hamburg. Get both quoted door to door, with the canal named.
Next Step
EU duty and product rules are on the EU bloc page. Every Indian agreement is on India's trade agreements.
