Trade fair
BFLEX Bharat Footwear & Leather Expo
"We do a lot of leather goods in India which rarely has quality issues." That line came from an Amazon seller comparing sourcing countries (r/FulfillmentByAmazon, 2019), and it matches what we hear more widely. Leather and soft goods are where foreign buyers report their better India results. BFLEX is the leather export council's show for exactly that trade.
"We do a lot of leather goods in India which rarely has quality issues." That line came from an Amazon seller comparing sourcing countries (r/FulfillmentByAmazon, 2019 (opens in a new tab)), and it matches what we hear more widely. Leather and soft goods are where foreign buyers report their better India results. BFLEX is the leather export council's show for exactly that trade.
It is run as a reverse buyer-seller meet, which means the council flies buyers in and sets meetings with exporters in fixed slots. This page covers the new dates, what the hosted package looked like and how to get the most from two days of meetings. One caveat - the 2026 edition was already postponed once, so check again before you book anything.
Next edition
- Dates: 15 to 16 March 2027 (7th edition), moved from September 2026 (CLE circular of 24 August 2026)
- Venue: Bharat Mandapam
- City: New Delhi
- Buyer registration: hosted overseas buyer form on CLE's BFLEX site (opens in a new tab). As at 28 September 2026 that page still shows the old September 2026 dates and the Yashobhoomi venue. The dates above come from the council's circular, which is the later word.
Who exhibits
CLE, the Council for Leather Exports, organises it. Exhibitors are council members: registered exporters of footwear, leather goods, garments and components. Membership proves an export record. It does not prove the exhibitor tans the leather or lasts the shoes.
Indian leather runs in clusters (Agra, Kanpur, Chennai, Ambur and Vaniyambadi, Kolkata) and a lot of it runs on job work, with one unit tanning, another cutting and a third stitching. Merchant exporters who manage that chain are normal and often useful. Ask which unit makes your order, where the leather is tanned and who checks the finish before it ships.
If your buyer asks about the tannery (and European buyers increasingly do) then ask for the tannery's name up front. It's a much easier question at a meeting table than after the order is placed.
Hosted-buyer terms
For the September 2026 edition, CLE's buyer page offered two complimentary nights in a five-star hotel in New Delhi with breakfast, for one director or senior executive per company, arriving the afternoon before the show. It also said return economy airfare, within ceiling limits, would be offered subject to government funding (CLE BFLEX buyers page, read 28 September 2026). The package is only for business visitors who want to source footwear and leather products from India.
CLE's published figures (September 2026) put the target at 225 or more foreign buyers, under India's Market Access Support scheme. Whether the 2027 terms stay the same is Unknown, so read the form again when the council updates it.
Visa
Use the e-Business Visa and apply at least two weeks ahead. Ask the organiser for an invitation letter.
Getting there
Bharat Mandapam is at Pragati Maidan in central New Delhi. ITPO says the 123-acre complex has metro connectivity and underground parking, so check which gate serves your hall before you set off (ITPO, read 25 September 2026).
What to expect
A meeting-driven event rather than a walk-the-halls fair. Your slots are set for you and you're expected to turn up to them, so prepare a one-page brief: product, leather type, finish, sizes and annual volume. Take physical samples of what you sell today, because a good exporter will judge your order by the stitch count faster than by your slides.
For shoes, ask for the size run and last they would use for your market, because a UK 8 and a US 8 are not the same foot. For bags and belts, ask about hardware, since buckles and zips are often bought in and are where cheap finishes fail first. Our quality control section covers the chromium VI and azo limits that EU buyers need tested.
That Amazon seller's "rarely has quality issues" was earned, not luck. Pick exporters who can name their units, test to your market's rules and send pre-production samples you sign off. If you want the shortlist checked and the tannery or factory visited after the show, SourcingSync (opens in a new tab) does it.
