In 2024 Lithuania pulled an Indian-made girl's dress off the market because its drawstrings broke the European child-safety standard for cords (Safety Gate alert 10013055 (opens in a new tab)). It's one alert in a quiet file. Lithuania raised only five EU food alerts on Indian goods in five years, and India shipped just US$0.03 million of cotton T-shirts there in FY2025-26 (TradeStat EIDB (opens in a new tab), HS 61091000).

1. VAT and the Label

Import VAT (PVM) is charged at the Lithuanian standard rate of 21% (Your Europe, VAT rates (opens in a new tab), checked by the Commission 13 July 2026). The textile label must be in Lithuanian. It's the third separate Baltic language, and neither the Latvian nor the Estonian label will do.

If you buy children's clothing, put the cord and drawstring standard (EN 14682) in the spec you send the supplier. It's a design choice made at the factory, and it's cheap to fix before cutting and expensive after.

2. Klaipėda or a Polish Port

Customs is the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance, lrmuitine.lt, listed on the EU's page of national customs sites (opens in a new tab). Klaipėda is the container port, the southernmost in the Baltic states and the closest to the Polish ports.

That gives you an option an Estonian buyer lacks. You can feeder to Klaipėda from a North Sea hub, or land at Gdańsk or Gdynia and truck north. Which is cheaper depends on the sailings you can get, and we have no India transit for either. Get both quoted door to door.
